Gabriele Marini

PhD Candidate and Programmer

Third year PhD Candidate at the University of Melbourne, sponsored by CSIRO-Data61. My research focuses on indoor localisation, sensors and modeling. I am very passionate about research andespecially ubiquitous computing but I often work with 3D graphics (Unity mostly) and Android.

Experience

Data Science Research Intern at Nokia Bells Lab

(Remote) Cambridge, UK

IoT, sensing and data science internship

“Set up an RFID based indoor localization system and proxemics tracker. Deployment did not go through due to COVID limitations. The project got repurposed to a Data Science related work. We extracted and analysed a corpus of Slack messages through NLP tools, Social Network Analysis with some Network Metrics. We then built a model to detect leadership in teams through these metrics without prior knowledge about the group’s hierarchy.”

PhD Candidate in Computing and Information Systems at The University of Melbourne

present Melbourne, Australia

Working on Ubiquitous Computing and IoT

I have been teaching at least one subject each semester during my PhD. Teaching and tutoring also included material creation, rubrics writing as well as marking of assignments, projects and final exams: Teaching
Extras
  • Treasurer of the Computing and Information System GRaduate Research Students group (CIS-GReS) (2019)
  • Floor Warden (2019)
  • Equipment manager for the IDL (now HCI) Lab (2019)

Trainees Program Chair at [NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Digital Technology to Transform Chronic Disease](https://connectedhealth-cre.org/)

Melbourne, Australia

I have lead the group of PhD students trainees and was in charge of setting up and conducting the monthly meetings and reporting back to the Chief Investigators. I also took part in the organization

PhD Candidate at CSIRO - Data61

present Melbourne, Australia

PhD Sponsored by a top-up Data61 - CSIRO scholarship

Consultant at European Central Bank

Frankfurt Am Main Area, Germany

I worked on the long-term IReF project implementing an online survey to be sent out to all the banks in Europe. Besides that, I offered technical support for IT-related matters (Python scripts, WordPress websites management, Javascript, VBA, SQL)

Research Assistant at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna - TeCIP Institute

Pisa, Italy
I worked mostly on robot vision and Hand-Eye camera robot calibration. I also developed part of the HMI (C#, MySQL) with a 3D Viewer of the robotic arm with inverse kinematics

VRMedia SRL at Software Engineer Intern

Pisa, Italy
I worked on my Master’s thesis under the supervision of Franco Tecchia and Marcello Carrozzino. Occasional work on part of other projects on the Unreal Engine. I developed a plugin for the Unreal Engine that implements the S3D scripting language and the of the XVR Environment (included its VM) in the engine. The project also includes the development of a code editor with a custom debugger and a debug UI
